Read Haiti and Strong Beginnings release radio distance-learning platform
The Global Center for the Development of the Whole Child (GC-DWC) and ACE Haiti are pleased to share their open-source collection of radio distance-learning programs, developed in response to COVID-19-prompted school closures in Haiti.
“Students and families in Haiti are faced with the challenge of distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in a context where access to technology, internet, and electricity are scarce. Radio is the most widely used and accessible medium to keep kids learning and growing, so we are excited to provide students with an engaging as well as relevant tool.” -Kate Schuenke-Lucien, Director of ACE Haiti
Adapted from the Read Haiti early grade literacy and the Strong Beginnings parenting and Pre-K curricula, the radio programs incorporate learning opportunities in both Haitian Creole and French; SEL themed lessons; interactive activities for younger students; and strategies for parents to support young learners at home.
Through this initiative, the GC-DWC and ACE Haiti aim to maintain student learning in the midst of COVID-19 in Haiti as well as to develop the resilience of Haiti’s education system in the face of future crises.
