Center for STEM Education Leads Visioning in Palm Beach
How can Catholic schools engage young people in innovative models of STEM--science, technology, engineering, and math--education?
Educational leaders in the Diocese of Palm Beach, Fla., joined in a daylong exploration of the possibilities recently under the guidance of the University of Notre Dame Center for STEM Education and its director, Dr. Matt Kloser.
Gary Gelo, diocesan superintendent of schools, was quoted in a Florida Catholic story on the Nov. 12 gathering with praise for the “visioning process” focused on preparing students for the future.
Educators and parents from local Catholic schools joined in the discussions at St. Luke School, which is taking early steps toward excellence in STEM learning. They engaged in discussions with Kloser, a professor of science education and a former Catholic school teacher. He is advancing STEM preparedness for K-12 students across the country through Notre Dame’s Institute for Educational Initiatives and Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE).
Kloser recently discussed his work with the Center for STEM Education and in ACE in a radio interview with the Michiana News Channel's Mark McGill in South Bend.
