Amy Langenkamp (Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin), is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology and a member of the faculty of the Center for Research on Educational Opportunity (CREO) in the Institute for Educational Initiatives (IEI) and at the University of Notre Dame.
Dr. Langenkamp's research interests center upon transitions between major societal institutions and processes of inequality within those institutions. As a sociologist of education, she is particularly interested in the ways that educational transitions can alleviate or exacerbate inequality, and the role of social contexts including peers, families, schools, and communities play in this process. Langenkamp’s research also focuses on how youth in different race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status groups progress through their schooling in distinct ways. Dr. Langenkamp’s research has been funded by the Gates Foundation and has been published widely in sociology and education research journals. Her research expertise includes both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
