Emma is a first year doctoral student in the cognition, brain, and behavior area of psychology and a Burns Fellow in the Program for Interdisciplinary Education Research (PIER). She graduated with a B.S. in Psychology and Mathematics from Furman University in 2025. Broadly, Emma is interested in mathematical cognition in education and improving outcomes for students in mathematics achievement. More specifically, she is interested in mathematical learning from 3rd to 8th grade and improving students’ mature number sense. Currently, Emma serves as a math tutor with the Tutor-ND program at the University of Notre Dame. This program seeks to expand access to evidence-based literacy and math programs for children in grades PK-8, while also connecting tutors to cognitive science.
