Jonathan Schwarz

Bio

Jon Schwarz is Director of Institutional Research (IR) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  MIT IR is a group of 13 research and data professionals in the Office of the Provost who collect, store, and report data to inform decision making at MIT and satisfy internal and external reporting requirements. 

 After completing a PhD in Sociology from Notre Dame, Jon was a postdoc for the Independent Schools Research Initiative in the Center for the Study of Religion & Society at Notre Dame.  From there, he became Assistant, then Associate, Director of Institutional Research at MIT.  Before becoming director, much of Jon’s research work in IR related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural climate on campus.

 Before Notre Dame, Jon earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and rhetoric from Wabash College and a master’s degree in higher education from Harvard University.  He also worked as an administrative researcher in MIT’s Office of Minority Education and Admissions Office.
