Deanna is PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology and CREO.  She received a BA in both Psychology and Sociology with a minor in International Studies from Aurora University.  Prior to joining the department, she worked in university Advancement and Alumni Relations.  Deanna’s research taps into how cultural factors and attachment to schooling may influence high school completion. In addition to investigating stratifying mechanisms of schooling, Deanna is also investigating stigma as a key mechanism through which having a criminal record affects the job search and subsequent employment outcomes. Her goal is to use this and other research to promote policies that serve to lessen the economic and social burdens of incarceration on individuals, families, and communities.
