Institute Local and Global


The Institute for Educational Initiatives is engaged in a wide variety of activities and issues:

National activities and issues

  • Education research--basic and applied: subjects including school and teacher effectiveness, educational opportunity, learning/development
  • Leadership formation through programs for teachers, principals, inclusionary educators
  • Professional services geared to sustain and strengthen Catholic K-12 schools
  • Outreach and engagement with multiple stakeholders supporting excellence in education and service to the disadvantaged


  • Support for the renewal of educational resources in Haiti in collaboration with the Congregation of Holy Cross
  • Training of teachers and service-learning in Chile 
  • Engagement with service to Catholic education in Ireland
  • Exchanges with other countries, integrating formation in the U.S. and international service

Local/Off-campus communities

  • Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program in Indiana (AP-TIP IN), in partnership with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) and numerous Indiana high schools
  • “Power of Writing” program in cooperation with South Bend area public and private schools
  • “Reading for Life” program in cooperation with St. Joseph County Juvenile Justice
  • “Catholic Schools Summer Camp” offering educational opportunities in diocesan schools under the direction of Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) instructors
  • Conferences, Lectures and Events open to local educators 
  • Center for Children and Families research and services affecting residents’ learning and well-being
  • Involvement of ACE teachers and alumni in local schools


  • Interdisciplinary education, including robust research opportunities, for graduate students and undergraduates
  • Co-sponsorship of “The System” panel discussion on K-12 Education in the United States
  • CREO Seminars and ND PIER Lectures
  • Events for undergraduates and the ND community sponsored by CREO, CCF, ESS, and ACE
