Bio

Father Ronald Nuzzi is a priest of the Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio and currently serves as the senior director of the ACE RISE (Renewing Identity, Strengthening Evangelization) initiative. He previously was founding Senior Director of ACE's Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program. Ordained in 1984, Father Nuzzi has a long record of service to Catholic education at every level, including teaching in parish schools, high school administration, university teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, and university administration.

He teaches courses designed for career professionals in education who wish to lead Catholic schools as principals, and specializes in blending the knowledge base of educational administration with the wisdom, traditions, and teachings of the Catholic theological tradition. His research interests are focused on school leadership issues that help to hasten the revitalization of U.S. Catholic schools.

Father Nuzzi has authored or edited a number of books, including two published in recent months: Striving for Balance, Steadfast in Faith: The Notre Dame Study of U.S. Catholic Elementary School Principals and Building Assets: The Strategic Use of Closed Catholic Schools. Both were co-authored by ACE faculty members Jim Frabutt and Anthony Holter. The same team produced No Greater Work: Meditations on Church Documents for Educators in 2010 and Faith, Finances, and the Future: The Notre Dame Study of U.S. Pastors in 2008.

Books including the two-volume encyclopedia Catholic Schools in the United States and Handbook of Research on Catholic Education were edited by Father Nuzzi along with Thomas C. Hunt and Eillis A. Joseph.

A nationally known speaker and author, Fr. Nuzzi has written extensively about the multiple intelligence theory in Catholic education, the spirituality of leadership, and inclusion in Catholic schools. His book,Gifts of the Spirit: Multiple Intelligences in Religious Education, was published by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). Nuzzi has conducted two separate research tours at the Vatican’s Congregation for Catholic Education and has provided original translation of church documents pertaining to the history of Catholic schooling.  

From 1998 to 2008, he served as editor of the research journal, Catholic Education: A Journal of Inquiry and Practice. His research interests are focused on school leadership issues that help to hasten the revitalization of U.S. Catholic schools. Books including the two-volume encyclopedia Catholic Schools in the United States and Handbook of Research on Catholic Education were edited by Father Nuzzi along with Thomas C. Hunt and Eillis A. Joseph. In a book to be published in 2015, Global Perspectives on Catholic Religious Education in Schools, he is the author of a chapter on U.S. Catholic schools.
