Bio

Joyce Johnstone serves as the Ryan Director of Educational Outreach for the Institute for Educational Initiatives at the University of Notre Dame. Her primary role involves administering all programs concerning outreach to local schools and teachers, directing the ACE replication project with 14 other universities, seeking funding for projects which will add depth and breadth to the core mission of the Institute for Educational Initiatives, serving as the liaison for all state and national initiatives, and directing the new Teachers of English as a New Language Program. At present she controls
approximately $5 million in funded projects.

Additionally, Dr. Johnstone serves as the academic advisor and licensing officer for the 180 students participating in the ACE Masters in Education Program, and the 60 candidates for school administrative licensure. Prior to coming to Notre Dame in 1998, Dr. Johnstone served as chair of the education department at Marian College in Indianapolis for 20 years. She also initiated and directed the Indiana Catholic Principals Institute, a professional development program for all Catholic school principals in Indiana.
