Bio
Dr. Holter is an Assistant Professional Specialist in the Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program, Concurrent Assistant Professor of Psychology, and a Fellow in the Institute for Educational Initiatives. Dr. Holter teaches research methods and action research in Catholic schools in the Master of Arts in Educational Administration program. The action research course sequence engages school leaders and teachers in systematic inquiry regarding issues and needs in their schools and dioceses.
Dr. Holter is a graduate of the ACE service through teaching program where he taught for two years at Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School in Charlotte, NC and earned his Master of Education degree. After ACE he earned a Master’s and Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While in Madison, Dr. Holter worked locally and internationally with teachers, principals, and community leaders to implement and evaluate forgiveness education programs for elementary school children in violent and impoverished communities.
Dr. Holter has published and presented in the areas of Catholic education, interpersonal forgiveness, moral education and development, and research methods. His current research interests focus on the development of empirically derived measures of Catholic identity for Catholic schools. Dr. Holter is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Educational Research Association (AERA; Division K, Teaching and teacher education; Religion and Education SIG, Associates for Research in Private Education SIG, and Action Research SIG), and the Association for Moral Education (AME).
